DR. STEVE ALBRECHT, PHR, CPP
Dr. Steve Albrecht manages a San Diego-based training, coaching, and
management consulting firm. As a trainer, speaker, author, and
consultant, Steve is internationally recognized for his expertise in high-risk HR issues. He provides
HR consulting services, security assessments, corrective coaching, and training seminars in supervisory improvement, workplace
violence prevention, sexual and racial harassment prevention, drug and alcohol awareness, team conflict resolution, negotiation, and
stress management. Dr. Albrecht
holds a B.A. in English, a B.S. in Psychology, an M.A. in Security Management, and a doctoral degree in Business Administration
(D.B.A.). He has been a trainer for over 24 years and is certified as a Professional in Human Resources
(PHR) by the Society for Human Resource Management and as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) by the American Society
for Industrial Security. He has received over 48 hours training in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing
(CISD). In
1994, Dr. Albrecht co-wrote Ticking Bombs: Defusing Violence in the Workplace, one of the first business
books on workplace violence. Besides his work as a conference presenter and keynote speaker, he appears
frequently in the media and on the Internet, as a source on workplace violence, security, crime, and terrorism.
His 15 books include Tough Training Topics: A Presenter’s Survival Guide, Added Value Negotiating;
Service, Service, Service!; and Fear and Violence on the Job. In 1999, Steve retired from the San Diego Police Department, where he had worked since 1984, both as a full-time
officer and later as a reserve sergeant. He spent six years in the Domestic Violence Unit, where he handled
over 1,500 cases. His police books include Contact & Cover; Streetwork; Surviving Street Patrol; and his latest,
Tactical Perfection for Street Cops. He serves as an expert witness for issues related to crime and violence,
security, HR, and police practices. Since 1996,
Dr. Albrecht has worked as a Course Leader for the American Management Association, teaching two and three-day supervisory
skills seminars. He teaches in the continuing education and business certificate programs at the
University of Southern California, Cal State Fullerton, and San Diego State University. Steve
is the current San Diego Chapter President of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP). He has significant teaching and consulting experience in the following areas:
